My #1 song of 2004 is Float On by Modest Mouse. I've come to have a relationship with this song. When it comes on, I still get excited even six months later. When I listen to it, it makes me happy. There could not have possibly been any other song that I could put in the top slot for 2004. It was the year I discovered Modest Mouse.

The Best of 2004- #2
#2 is Take Me Out by Franz Ferdinand. Any other year, this song would have been #1 by a long shot, but it came out at almost the exact same time as my very favorite song and could never quite overtake it as the best, either during the course of the year or now. But #2 is no shame in this case- I love this song as a favorite that I will never get tired of.

The Best of 2004- #3
#3 is A Favor House Atlantic by Coheed & Cambria. Don't be put off by the fact that all of their tracks are part of some bizarre mythology- their stuff is addicting.

The Best of 2004- #4
#4 is Silver and Cold by AFI. This was my favorite song for the first half of the year. Then I became aware of Modest Mouse in June.

The Best of 2004- #5
#5 is Ocean Breathes Salty by Modest Mouse. This song being so great is what prompted me to make my first CD purchase in 4 years.

The Best of 2004- #7
#7 is Ch-Check it Out by the Beastie Boys. I don't agree with their politics, but this one didn't touch on that so I allowed it to get stuck in my head...over and over.
